குறள் 1:
அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி
பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு
How "அ / A" is the first letter of all the words
God is the beginning of this world
குறள் 2:
கற்றதனால் ஆய பயனென்கொல் வாலறிவன்
நற்றாள் தொழாஅர் எனின்
What is the benefit of Education, if you do not bow down
to God's feet who is the Pure Knowledge
***GOD = Truth/Existence+Pure Love/Knowledge/Consciousness+Eternal Happiness/Bliss
குறள் 3:
மலர்மிசை ஏகினான் மாணடி சேர்ந்தார்
நிலமிசை நீடுவாழ் வார்
Who always filled his mind with Lotus feet of God
He stays in the world forever
1. அறத்துப்பால்\1.பாயிரவியல்\அதிகாரம்\2. வான்சிறப்பு (Nature Praise):
குறள் 12:
துப்பார்க்குத் துப்பாய துப்பாக்கித் துப்பார்க்குத்
துப்பாய தூஉ மழை
Rain helps to create food(agriculture), to cook the food
and as a food/drink
1. அறத்துப்பால்\1.பாயிரவியல்\அதிகாரம்\3. நீத்தார் பெருமை (Renounced Praise)
குறள் 26:
செயற்கரிய செய்வார் பெரியர் சிறியர்
செயற்கரிய செய்கலா தார்
The great people can do even the impossible action
The small minded cannot do the impossible action
1. அறத்துப்பால்\1.பாயிரவியல்\அதிகாரம்\4. அறன் வலியுறுத்தல் (Influence Righteousness)
குறள் 34:
மனத்துக்கண் மாசிலன் ஆதல் அனைத்தறன்
ஆகுல நீர பிற
If you feel a dust/sin in your mind, while performing any action
then it is not righteous action. Sinful actions are performed as drama & show off.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\ 5. இல்வாழ்க்கை (Duty of Householder)
குறள் 41:
இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் இயல்புடைய மூவர்க்கும்
நல்லாற்றின் நின்ற துணை
World will say he is good householder when he supports
with good deeds to Bachelor, Elderly people & Liberated
குறள் 42:
துறந்தார்க்கும் துவ்வா தவர்க்கும் இறந்தார்க்கும்
இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் துணை
Householder's duty is to support the Elders left by their children, Poor people and orphan people who died on the roadside.
குறள் 43:
தென்புலத்தார் தெய்வம் விருந்தொக்கல் தானென்றாங்கு
ஐம்புலத்தா றோம்பல் தலை
Householder's duty is to serve the Ancestors, God, Guests,
neighbors and Self.
குறள் 45:
அன்பும் அறனும் உடைத்தாயின் இல்வாழ்க்கை
பண்பும் பயனும் அது
If the home practice Righteous action and show Love
that family life has humility and benefits
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\6. வாழ்க்கைத் துணைநலம் (Duty of Life Partner)
குறள் 51:
மனைத்தக்க மாண்புடையள் ஆகித்தற் கொண்டான்
வளத்தக்காள் வாழ்க்கைத் துணை
The good wife should have good character to lead the family and also,
she should be able to manage expense within the income of Husband.
குறள் 55:
தெய்வம் தொழாஅள் கொழுநற் றொழுதெழுவாள்
பெய்யெனப் பெய்யும் மழை
Even a wife does not pray to God but if she take care of husband
In such case, she order rain to come, rain comes.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\7. மக்கட்பேறு(Children)
குறள் 66:
குழலினி தியாழினி தென்பதம் மக்கள்
மழலைச்சொல் கேளா தவர்
Those say flute music and veena music is good who never
heard the voice of their own Baby.
குறள் 67:
தந்தை மகற்காற்றும் நன்றி அவையத்து
முந்தி இருப்பச் செயல்
The duty of Father to his son is to make him
to be in first in the educated forum
குறள் 69:
ஈன்ற பொழுதின் பெரிதுவக்கும் தன்மகனைச்
சான்றோன் எனக்கேட்ட தாய்
Mother gets happiness when others tell her "your son is well educated" that happiness is more than when she gave a birth
குறள் 70:
மகன் தந்தைக் காற்றும் உதவி இவன்தந்தை
என்நோற்றான் கொல்லெனும் சொல்
Duty of son to his father is when others talk, "what deeds your father did to have you".
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\8.அன்புடைமை(Love)
குறள் 71:
அன்பிற்கும் உண்டோ அடைக்குந்தாழ் ஆர்வலர்
புண்கணீர் பூசல் தரும்
Can we put any lock to unconditional Love, when the little tears (by seeing others suffers) comes out from lovable people that will show their real love.
குறள் 72:
அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் அன்புடையார்
என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு
Cruel people take everything for themselves, the loved ones gives even their bones to others
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\9. விருந்தோம்பல்
குறள் 90:
மோப்பக் குழையும் அனிச்சம் முகந்திரிந்து
நோக்கக் குழையும் விருந்து
The time you smell the Anicham flower, the same time it shrinks
The time, we do not welcome the guests with smile(whole heartedly), the guest face shrinks
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\10. இனியவை கூறல்(To Speak sweet)
குறள் 100:
இனிய உளவாக இன்னாத கூறல்
கனிஇருப்பக் காய்கவர்ந் தற்று
When you speak bad/harsh words, when sweet words are available
It is like picking the raw fruit when ripped one is available
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\11.செய்ந்நன்றியறிதல்(Gratitude)
குறள் 101:
செய்யாமல் செய்த உதவிக்கு வையகமும்
வானகமும் ஆற்றல் அரிது
When someone helps to a person even that person never done any help in the past,
even if we offer this world and heaven which are not worth compared with this help.
குறள் 102:
காலத்தி னாற்செய்த நன்றி சிறிதெனினும்
ஞாலத்தின் மாணப் பெரிது
Timely help even it is very small,
that help is bigger than this world
குறள் 105:
உதவி வரைத்தன் றுதவி உதவி
செயப்பட்டார் சால்பின் வரைத்து
Worthiness of the Help depends on whom we help
not what we offer.
குறள் 108:
நன்றி மறப்பது நன்றன்று நன்றல்லது
அன்றே மறப்பது நன்று
We should not forget people who helped and we should
immediately forget who did evil acts.
குறள் 110:
எந்நன்றி கொன்றார்க்கும் உய்வுண்டாம்
உய்வில்லை செய்ந்நன்றி கொன்ற மகற்கு
A person still have life even he never followed righteousness but
he never have life if he failed to be grateful.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\12. நடுவு நிலைமை (Being Centered)
குறள் 114:
தக்கார் தகவிலர் என்ப தவரவர்
எச்சத்தாற் காணப் படும்
We will come to know whether a person is being centered
or not by looking at their children.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\13. அடக்கம் உடைமை (Self-control)
குறள் 121:
அடக்கம் அமரருள் உய்க்கும் அடங்காமை
ஆரிருள் உய்த்து விடும்
Self-control gives fame in life and when you cannot control
the self it leads to darkness
குறள் 127:
யாகாவா ராயினும் நாகாக்க காவாக்காற்
சோகாப்பர் சொல்லிழுக்குப் பட்டு
We cannot control anything, at least we have to control
the tongue if not it leads to sorrow
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\14. ஒழுக்கம் உடைமை (Self-discipline)
குறள் 131:
ஒழுக்கம் விழுப்பந் தரலான் ஒழுக்கம்
உயிரினும் ஓம்பப் படும்
Self-discipline will give prosperity & growth in life. Hence, we should praise the self-discipline more than the self
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\15. பிறனில் விழையாமை (Don't follow behind married man/women)
குறள் 148:
பிறன்மனை நோக்காத பேராண்மை சான்றோர்க்
கறனென்றோ ஆன்ற வொழுக்கு
The great man means he do not look into married women, the educated people not only follows righteousness and also, it is great self-discipline.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\16. பொறையுடைமை(Being Patience)
குறள் 151:
அகழ்வாரைத் தாங்கும் நிலம்போலத் தம்மை
இகழ்வார்ப் பொறுத்தல் தலை
How earth have patience for people who dig them
we should have patience when people insult us.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\17. அழுக்காறாமை (No Jealousy)
குறள் 169:
அவ்விய நெஞ்சத்தான் ஆக்கமும் செவ்வியான்
கேடும் நினைக்கப் படும்
Jealousy person living happily with so much wealth and Non-Jealousy person suffers with poverty..need to think.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\18. வெஃகாமை(Don't Like to obtain others wealth)
குறள் 173:
சிற்றின்பம் வெஃகி யறனல்ல செய்யாரே
மற்றின்பம் வேண்டு பவர்
The one who follows righteousness will not do sinful action because it gives
short term benefits.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\19. புறங்கூறாமை(Don't Blame others)
குறள் 186:
பிறன்பழி கூறுவான் தன்பழி யுள்ளுந்
திறன்தெரிந்து கூறப் படும்
If you talk others mistakes, your the most secret mistakes will be revealed by others.
குறள் 190:
ஏதிலார் குற்றம்போல் தங்குற்றங் காண்கிற்பின்
தீதுண்டோ மன்னு முயிர்க்கு
The way we look into others mistake, if we look our own mistakes. There will be always peace and we stop complaining about others.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\20. பயனில சொல்லாமை(Don't talk unnecessary)
குறள் 200:
சொல்லுக சொல்லிற் பயனுடைய சொல்லற்க
சொல்லிற் பயனிலாச் சொல்
We should speak only necessary words and avoid speaking unnecessary words which neither benefit to speaker nor the listener.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\21. தீவினையச்சம்(Fear for sinful action)
குறள் 209:
தன்னைத்தான் காதல னாயின் எனைத்தொன்றுந்
துன்னற்க தீவினைப் பால்
If one loves the self, he never do the sinful act
even if its too small.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\22. ஒப்புரவறிதல்(Service-minded)
குறள் 214:
ஒத்த தறிவான் உயிர்வாழ்வான் மற்றையான்
செத்தாருள் வைக்கப் படும்
The one who helps the needy people he is living,
rest all to be kept in death list.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\23. ஈ.கை(Social Service)
குறள் 221:
வறியார்க்கொன் றீவதே ஈகைமற் றெல்லாங்
குறியெதிர்ப்பை நீர துடைத்து
We should offer to people who are unable to earn, rest whatever
we give upon expecting the returns.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\2.இல்லறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\24. புகழ்(Fame)
குறள் 231:
ஈத லிசைபட வாழ்தல் அதுவல்ல
தூதிய மில்லை உயிர்க்கு
Fame to be earned by helping needy people, there is nothing other
than that gives fame and better living.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\25.அருளுடைமை(Grace)
குறள் 247:
அருளில்லார்க் கவ்வுலகம் இல்லை பொருளில்லார்க்
கிவ்வுலகம் இல்லாகி யாங்கு
No place in Heaven if you do not have grace
No place on this world if you do not have wealth.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\26.புலால் மறுத்தல்(Avoid Non-Vegetarian)
குறள் 258:
செயிரின் தலைப்பிரிந்த காட்சியா ருண்ணார்
உயிரின் தலைப்பிரிந்த ஊன்
Educated with pure hearted(without mistakes), never eat the dead body(Ex.Chicken not alive)
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\27.தவம்(Penance)
குறள் 261:
உற்றநோய் நோன்றல் உயிர்க்குறுகண் செய்யாமை
அற்றே தவத்திற் குரு
The meaning of penance are to have patience on to bear one's pain and not giving any pain to others
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\28.கூடா ஒழுக்கம்(Avoid Bad Habits)
குறள் 280:
மழித்தலும் நீட்டலும் வேண்டா உலகம்
பழித்த தொழித்து விடின்
If we do not practice any bad habits which are cursed by this world then having long hairs or shave the hair those blind belief not necessary.(by only changing forms are fake)
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\29.கள்ளாமை(Don't Steal)
குறள் 281:
எள்ளாமை வேண்டுவா னென்பான் எனைத்தொன்றுங்
கள்ளாமை காக்கதன் நெஞ்சு
He who wants to live as a good person, he never even think to steal other things
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\30.வாய்மை(Speak Truth)
குறள் 291:
வாய்மை எனப்படுவ தியாதெனின் யாதொன்றந்
தீமை யிலாத சொலல்
The meaning of being truth is not speaking bad/hurtful words
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\31.வெகுளாமை(Anger-control)
குறள் 301:
செல்லிடத்துக் காப்பான் சினங்காப்பான் அல்லிடத்துக்
காக்கினென் காவாக்கா லென்
Where he can control the anger(in front of weak person), there if he can control then he is really controlling the anger. Where he cannot control his anger, there if gets anger or not..what is the use?
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\32.இன்னா செய்யாமை(Don't hurt others)
குறள் 314:
இன்னாசெய் தாரை ஒறுத்தல் அவர்நாண
நன்னயஞ் செய்து விடல்
We should do good action to those who did bad action to us and by doing so, that person feel guilty.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\33.கொல்லாமை(Don't kill anyone)
குறள் 322:
பகுத்துணடு பல்லுயி ரோம்புதல் நூலோர்
தொகுத்தவற்று ளெல்லாந் தலை Whatever we have earned, we should take care of the self as well as share with others, this is the first righteous action upon all kept by great authors who written the scriptures.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\34.நிலையாமை(Impermanent)
குறள் 339:
உறங்குவது போலுஞ் சாக்கா டுறங்கி
விழிப்பது போலும் பிறப்பு
Death means when one sleep
Birth means one who is awake from sleep.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\35.துறவு(Liberation)
குறள் 341:
யாதனின் யாதனின் நீங்கியான் நோதல்
அதனின் அதனின் அலன்
When you are unattached with so and so things and you have no pain
from those and those things
குறள் 350:
பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை அப்பற்றைப்
பற்றுக பற்று விடற்கு
Hold the God who is ever detached who has no attachment, hold him to be unattached from those what we attached.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\36.மெய்யுணர்தல்(Realisation of Truth)
குறள் 355:
எப்பொரு ளெத்தன்மைத் தாயினும் அப்பொருள்
மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்ப தறிவு
The knowledge means to see the truth (Sat-chit-anandam-Truth-Conscious-Bliss) in whatever we see.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\3.துறவறவியல்\அதிகாரம்\37.அவா அறுத்தல்(Detach from desires)
குறள் 370:
ஆரா இயற்கை அவாநீப்பின் அந்நிலையே
பேரா இயற்கை தரும்
One who can detach from desires which is never ending(one after another, we keep getting)
he gets permanent happiness.
1. அறத்துப்பால்\4.ஊழியல்\அதிகாரம்\38.ஊழ்(Fate)
குறள் 380:
ஊழிற் பெருவலி யாவுள மற்றொன்று
சூழினுந் தான்முந் துறும்
There is no way to get rid of fate, if we find any other way even there fate comes & stand in front
1. பொருட்பால்\1.அரசியல்\அதிகாரம்\39.இறைமாட்சி
குறள் 380:
ஊழிற் பெருவலி யாவுள மற்றொன்று
சூழினுந் தான்முந் துறும்
There is no way to get rid of fate, if we find any other way even there fate comes & stand in front
